The Social Security Administration provides calendars to help beneficiaries plan their budgets. The 2023 calendar and 2024 calendar have been made available, but you can use the following rules to help you determine when your disability payments will occur .
How Do Holidays Impact Disability Payments Schedules?
Social Security (SSDI) payments typically occur on the third of each month and on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month. Your birth date typically determines your particular Social Security payment date. A broad exception is for individuals who are receiving benefits under someone else’s work record. In those situations, payments are determined based on the worker’s birthdate.
Supplemental Security IncomeA federal supplemental income program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes). It helps aged, blind, and disabled people who have limited income and resources by providing monthly cash payments to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. For more information, see Supplemental Security Income (SSI). (SSIA federal supplemental income program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes). It helps aged, blind, and disabled people who have limited income and resources by providing monthly cash payments to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. For more information, see Supplemental Security Income (SSI).) payments occur on the first of each month. If someone is receiving both SSDI and SSI, payments occur on the 3rd of each month.
Payments are not made on weekends or on recognized holidays. If a regularly scheduled payment happens to fall on a holiday or a weekend, then those payments are made at the first available date prior.
SSI Payments
SSI payments will be paid on December 1. The January payment will be made on December 29th. (January 1 is a federal holiday and the 30th and 31st fall on the weekend. )
SSDI Payments
SSDI payments are made based on your birthday pursuant to the following table:
Birth date on | Benefits Paid on |
---|---|
1st-10th | Second Wednesday of the month |
11th-20th | Third Wednesday of the month |
21st – 31st | Fourth Wednesday of the month |
Most SSDI payments are not impacted by the holidays this season. All the December and January payments will be made at the regularly scheduled times.
You can see the exceptions play out in 2024. Christmas falls on a Wednesday so the 21st – 31st birthdays will receive their payments on Christmas Eve.
